Family

Our children are now all young adults and life is ever changing. This picture was taken at Megan's (pictured in center) graduation from Lancaster Mennonite High School on June 2, 2007. Megan will be attending Ursinus College http://www.ursinus.edu this coming fall where she will major in Exercise & Sports Science with a focus on Education and minor in Elementary Education (likely). While at Ursinus, she also plans to play field hockey, one of the 2 sports that she enjoys. She had a great senior year in high school and finished off her high school athletic career with an amazing soccer season. She is now employed by Oregon Dairy Restaurant for the summer.

Tiffany, pictured on the left, recently returned to the Lancaster area after spending a year in Boston. She is now currently employed by Sharp Shopper http://www.sharpshopper.net/leola.htm in Leola. She is living in Lancaster City in an apartment. We have been busy helping her move and unpack and paint her new living space.

Tyler is home for the summer. He spent January - April in India where he had many amazing experiences. You can see the journal entries and pictures from his trip at this website, http://www.emu.edu/crosscultural/india07/ He is working at Oregon Dairy Restaurant again this summer and will return to EMU in the fall to complete his college education where he has been majoring in Mathematics.

Both of our parents were able to make the trip to Lancaster to be a part of Megan's graduation celebration. Lorie's parents, Norman & Betty Hackman are pictured to the left and Cal's parents, Kenneth & Dorothy Yoder are pictured on the right.

Here is a picture of us as a family, also taken after Megan's graduation. We look a little crooked don't we? :) We also celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in June as well.

Unbelievable weekend

This is Erb's Bridge, a covered bridge, located about 2 miles from our home. It was a truly wonderful weekend. This weekend had its beginnings back in July when Floyd Landis won the Tour de France. In a very short time, news broke that Floyd had tested positive for a high testerone/epitesterone ratio. Many of us from Lancaster County had trouble believing this. Cal has become almost obsessed with following the news regarding this matter. Through this obsession, he has become friends with people from around the United States. It was announced that the Floyd Fairness Fund would be sponsoring an event in Ephrata and we gladly became hosts for many guests who have become our friends. Below you will see some of the events we experienced over March 23-25.

We spent Sunday lunch at the home of the Hurst's who graciously opened it for many folks. It was a really fun time.

We spent lunch talking with Will Geoghan, Floyd's manager and had a great time.

Lorie and I are sharing conversation with friends following lunch.

Will and Paula at lunch. Paula helps David on tbv and is married to Mark who took these pictures.

This picture symbolizes the hope which is springing forth with a greater pulse. Dr. Arnie Baker, cycling coach and medical doctor who is helping Floyd defend himself talks with Kevin Dykstra (better known as duckstrap at Daily Peleton Forum) and David Brower (tbv). Check out some of the stuff Kevin and David are sharing at http://www.dailypelotonforums.com/main/index.php?s=cb65b85a85dac8933967560aac358cfe&showtopic=3770&st=40

Floyd relaxing after lunch.

Sunday afternoon, we went for a ride, which was wonderful. I am pictured with my new friends, all persons I have met over the internet. Next to me is Kevin Dykstra who resides in Massachusetts. He is a great guy and very intelligent. Mark Kirsch is next to Kevin and resides in New York with his wife Paula (strbck). Mark is the person who provided all the photographs you are viewing on this entry. Check out all his pictures at http://kirschweb.net/ephrata/content/index.html Last, but not least, is David Brower. He started a blog to track Floyd Landis news and is what ultimately brought us all together. David is from California and you can learn all you need to know about the Floyd Landis case at http://trustbut.blogspot.com/ The day was beautiful and we rode about 18 miles with a couple of nice hills.

A neat picture of Floyd with a young fan.

Spring-time Thoughts

Spring is hopefully around the corner. For Megan, soccer season has begun, and the college decision has been made. Tyler continues his time in India until April 21 and Tiffany continues on in Boston as she considers what her next year will hold in terms of employment or service. Cal & Lorie continue to enjoy life in Lancaster with great anticipation of the upcoming spring weather. We are ready for winter to be behind us and will warmly greet spring in.

Tyler in India

We really enjoyed seeing this picture of Tyler riding the elephant. Looks like he is enjoying himself.

A group of the guys played cricket with some of the locals. I guess it was a big hit. Check out the web site to read more about it. http://www.emu.edu/crosscultural/india07/journal2.html

The EMU group in front of the Taj Mahal. Tyler is the tallest guy in the back and middle.

Lorie

While in California, Lorie & a newly made friend, Denise Mitchell, decided to see if they were still young enough to jump off of the lifeguard stand. They began in the sitting position, and pushed themselves up and off and landed safely on the beach with no broken bones or sore muscles! :)

Lorie likes to use the camera, computer & her limited amount of creativity to add a bit to her surroundings.

She has taken up cross stitching and knitting again in her spare time when she is not busy with work at LMS, the family and household needs.

She also loves to travel, especially by plane. Lorie & Megan will be going to Boston to see Tiffany later this month. They hope to do some fun sight seeing, relaxing and also spend a day with Tiffany on one of her service days. Look out Boston! ;)

Calvin

Cal continues to enjoy running. He ran his 6th marathon in October. However, it was a first for him - he did not finish. His best marathon was the New Jersey Marathon which was run in 2005 in a time of 3:42:45.4. He is pictured above at the Ocean Drive Marathon in New Jersey.

Cal is completing his 10th year as pastor at Forest Hills Mennonite Church. Church life is good and is always busy.
